CONSERVATION LABORATORY

Not all documents that come to the State Archives are in pristine condition. Many documents are adversely affected by time, improper storage, fire and water damage, as well as high acidic content. It is the task of the State Archives to preserve these documents which are essential to Louisiana's history. The Archives features a modern conservation lab where a trained conservator meticulously uses the latest in preservation techniques to extend the life of these historical treasures.
