ABOUT the GeauxBiz CHECKLIST

What is the GeauxBiz Checklist?

One of the innovations provided by the Secretary of State is providing small businesses with the state's licensing liaisons. Every state agency that deals with business or licensing designates an officer or employee to serve as its business licensing liaison. The primary purpose of the GeauxBiz Checklist is to facilitate business by providing a central system for the determination of what licenses and permits must be obtained and maintained by individuals conducting business in the state.

Our GeauxBiz Department provides a central point of contact for state government requirements. It also directs the individual to the proper local licensing and taxing authorities, as well as to state and quasi-governmental agencies, by providing a customized licensing/permit checklist.

Getting Started

An important step in forming a new business is to determine the type of business structure that you will use. There are several business structures to choose from, including sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, limited liability company, and limited liability partnership.

Each has advantages and disadvantages as well as tax consequences of which you should be aware. You must decide which of these structures best suits your business objectives and needs.

Our GeauxBiz Department cannot advise you on choosing a business structure. For help in making this decision, you may wish to consult a tax practitioner, accountant or attorney.
