Vacancies

Vacancies include resignations, retirements, deaths, being elected and sworn into another office, moving out of the jurisdiction of a specific district and being recalled.

Letters of resignation and retirement must be originals and must be notarized. The resignation/retirement becomes valid upon receipt of the original letter in our office. When an original, notarized letter of resignation is received, our office transmits the notice to the governing authority required by law to make the appointment to fill the vacancy and call the special election to fill the vacancy, if one is necessary.

A notification of a death should include the name, office title and date of death (faxed or emailed copies are accepted).
