Municipal Spring Primary Election, Vacancies and Propositions

April 6, 2013 primary; May 4, 2013 general:

  • Qualifying period is Feb. 13, 14 and 15 until 5 p.m.
  • State candidates qualify in the executive offices of the secretary of state located at 8585 Archives Ave. in Baton Rouge. Secretary of State's Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Local and municipal candidates qualify with the clerk of court in the parish in which they are registered to vote. Contact your local clerk of court for office hours.
  • View a list of qualifying fees (PDF). Payment must be in the form of cash; certified or cashier's check on a state or national bank or credit union; United States postal money order; or money order issued by a state or national bank or credit union.
  • Download the fillable qualifying form (PDF). 
  • Early voting is March 23-30 (except Sunday, March 24 and Good Friday, March 29) from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the April 6 primary election.
  • Early voting is April 20-27 (except Sunday, April 21) from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the May 4  general election.  

Fall Off Year Primary Election, Vacancies and Propositions

Oct. 19, 2013 primary; Nov. 16, 2013 general:

  • Qualifying period is Aug. 14, 15 and 16 until 5 p.m.
  • State candidates qualify in the executive offices of the secretary of state located at 8585 Archives Ave. in Baton Rouge. Secretary of State's Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Local and municipal candidates qualify with the clerk of court in the parish in which they are registered to vote. Contact your local clerk of court for office hours.
  • View a list of qualifying fees (PDF). Payment must be in the form of cash; certified or cashier's check on a state or national bank or credit union; United States postal money order; or money order issued by a state or national bank or credit union.

  • Early voting is Oct. 5-12 (except Sunday) from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the Oct. 19 primary election.
  • Early voting is Nov. 2-9 (except Sunday) from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the Nov. 16 general election.

Orleans Municipal/Parochial Primary Election, Vacancies and Propositions 

Feb. 1, 2014 primary; March 15, 2014 general:

  • Qualifying period is Dec. 11, 12 and 13, 2013 until 5 p.m.
  • Local and municipal candidates qualify with the clerk of court in the parish in which they are registered to vote. Contact your local clerk of court for office hours.
  • View a list of qualifying fees (PDF). Payment must be in the form of cash; certified or cashier's check on a state or national bank or credit union; United States postal money order; or money order issued by a state or national bank or credit union.

  • Early voting is Jan. 18-25, 2014 (except Sunday) from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the Feb. 1 municipal/parochial primary election.
  • Early voting is March 1-8 (except Sunday) from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the March 15 municipal/parochial general election.

Campaign Finance Reports, Lobbyists and Political Action Committees 

  • Campaign Finance Reports (external) which include reports from incumbent statewide elected officials are available for online viewing on the Louisiana Ethics Administration's website. In addition, lists of registered lobbyists and political action committees are available.
  • The Federal Elections Commission (external) has copies of actual financial disclosure reports filed by House, Senate and presidential campaigns, parties and PACs from 1993 to the present.
