Order Documents & Certificates
Copies of documents and certificates on file in the Secretary of State's office may be obtained by written request, mailed to P.O. Box 94125, Baton Rouge, LA 70804, faxed to 225.932.5313 or online through our Commercial Database.
Fax requests are accepted when a credit card number is supplied. Requests submitted by mail must be accompanied by a check or money order made payable to the Secretary of State.
Documents may be certified by the Secretary of State as a true and correct copy of the records of his office. The fee for a copy of an individual document is $15. The fee for more than one document filed by the same entity or the complete file for the entity is $25.
The office of the Secretary of State also prepares certificates which reflect information filed of record with the office. The following is a list of the commonly requested certificates:
- Certificate of Good Standing for corporations and limited liability companies;
- Certificate of Existence for corporations, partnerships, trade names and limited liability companies;
- Certificate of Registry for Partnerships; and
- Certificate of No Record for corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies.
In addition, certificates issued with filings after July 15, 2005, such as certificates of incorporation, certificates of merger, trade name registration certificates, etc., may be reissued by the Secretary of State as a 'duplicate' certificate. The fee for a certificate is $20.
Information regarding entity name, status, date of incorporation, organization, registration, current registered office address, registered agent name and address, and the names and addresses of current officer(s), director(s), member(s) and manager(s) may be printed from the Commercial Database.
Searches by an individual's name, as well as custom searches are offered upon request. Examples of custom searches are:
- a list of all the Louisiana non-profit corporations domiciled in East Baton Rouge Parish;
- a list of all foreign limited liability companies qualified to do business in Louisiana; or
- a list of all entities with the word "environmental" in the name.
The minimum fee for a query is $25 for the first 40 entity records and 1 cent a record for any additional.
Requests for name reservations, certified copies and certificates may be made by fax. Requests should include a credit card number, with the expiration date, a return address, and a contact person's name and telephone number.
The Secretary of State's office offers an outgoing fax service by customer request. Copies of documents on file will be faxed for the customary cost of the service plus a fax fee of $1 per page. (Maximum fax fee is $10)
Walk-in Customer Services
The Commercial Division offers customers the convenience of walk-in service. Documents may be processed while the customer waits for a $50 priority expedite fee or processed in 24 hours for a $30 expedite fee. All expedite fees are in addition to the required filing fee. The forms furnished by the Secretary of State are available. Documents may be delivered for processing on a non-expedited basis. The customer may leave a mailing address or a telephone number for notification when processing is complete.
The office is at 8585 Archives Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA 70809 and is located in the building behind the Louisiana State Archives. Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Please try to arrive by 4:00 p.m. to give the employees enough time to complete the filing.
Requests received after regular office hours will be processed on the next business day.
