Find Ballot Numbers

Candidate ballot numbers are determined by law, R.S. 18:551, according to title in the following order:

  • president and vice president;
  • presidential nominees in a presidential preference primary;
  • state offices;
  • local offices;
  • municipal offices; and
  • political party offices.

The candidates are then listed alphabetically within each race. Once the ballot numbers are determined, they remain the same for both the primary and general election.

State candidates may contact the secretary of state's office at 800.883.2805 or 225.922.0900 for their ballot number. Local and municipal candidates may contact their parish clerk of court where they qualified.

Candidate numbers can also be reviewed on sample ballots. Sample ballots are available no later than 20 days prior to each election (online sample ballots do not contain withdrawn candidates).
